Anthony Lau

Anthony Lau is Deloitte China’s South China International and M&A Tax Leader. He is a tax partner based in Hong Kong, specializing in Hong Kong, the PRC and international tax planning. Anthony regularly advises investment funds on their formation issues, encompassing areas such as top side and downstream tax structuring, acquisitions, investment exits and due diligence. He has extensive experience in advising the fee arrangement for fund managers from a transfer pricing perspective and reviewing and providing practical tax advice on fund formation and constitutional documentation. Other matters advised include the formulation of tax efficient carried interest or remuneration plans for fund professionals. Anthony was actively engaged in lobbying the Hong Kong SAR Government to clarify the profits tax exemption for offshore funds before the exemption law was extended to cover private equity funds in July 2015, and also on the introduction of the unified Hong Kong tax exemption regime for all funds in 2019 and tax exemption for carried interest in 2021. Meanwhile, Anthony has also been heavily involved during the consultation stage concerning the introduction of the foreign-sourced income exemption regime and tax concession for family offices in 2022. Anthony also provided critical insights to the Hong Kong SAR Government on the enhancement and development of the preferential tax regime for qualified corporate treasury centres in Hong Kong.

Connie Wong is a Managing Director based in the Singapore operation where she oversees strategic partnerships and business growth for the Asia-Pacific region. Connie also serves as an independent director to Asia-based hedge funds, private equity funds and venture capital funds with varying structure and investment strategies across multiple jurisdictions. Connie joined Waystone in 2015 and was based initially in the Cayman Islands office, before subsequently moving to roles based in the Hong Kong and Singapore operations. Prior to joining Waystone, Connie was a manager of the Finance and Fund Referred Reporting Engagement Group at PwC in the Cayman Islands, where she managed the finance operations for the Cayman Islands and Bahamas offices and liaised on financial and operating matters with all business units within the company, including the Caribbean region. While at PwC, Connie managed a portfolio of hedge fund clients in North America and managed the financial reporting requirements of investment funds across jurisdictions such as the Cayman Islands, North America and Luxembourg. Connie was also responsible for reviewing the financial statements of CIMA registered funds received from the global PwC network. In addition to her native Cantonese, Connie is fluent in English, Mandarin Chinese and Hokkien/Taiwanese.

Subsequently, Haw Rer moved to Shanghai to help lead the Shanghai office of Eaton Partners, a global placement agent, before leaving in 2021 to set up Pangaea Alternative Advisors, an Asia focused GP-advisory firm that assists with both primary fundraising and complex secondary transactions.
